Ten including organised criminals arrested with weapons and drugs in Mt Lavinia operation

Ten suspects, including alleged members of an organised crime gang, were arrested with a live hand grenade, crystal methamphetamine (Ice) and sharp weapons during a special operation carried out in the Mount Lavinia Division early Tuesday (09).

The arrests were made by officers of the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau during coordinated raids conducted across Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala and Angulana.

The suspects included eight associates of an alleged organised crime figure and drug trafficker currently believed to be residing overseas.

During the operation, officers recovered a live hand grenade, 35 grams of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice”, and five swords.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 56, are residents of Angulana, Moratuwa and Ratmalana.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that some of the suspects are allegedly linked to several criminal offences, including an attack carried out with sharp weapons in the Dehiwala area that resulted in serious injuries.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau. (Newswire)
