Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, officially declared open the newly constructed multipurpose building at the Department of Examinations headquarters on April 30, marking a major step towards strengthening Sri Lanka’s assessment infrastructure.
Constructed at a cost of Rs. 478 million, the six-storey facility is designed to enhance the operational capacity of the Examinations Department. It includes modern exam halls suitable for efficiency bar and public service exams, a fully equipped 175-seat auditorium with advanced audiovisual facilities, and a sound-controlled multipurpose recording studio that accommodates children with special needs during examinations.
Other key features include residential accommodation for resource personnel, internet-enabled rooms for online examinations, dedicated spaces for confidential examination procedures, a public communication network, and a CCTV monitoring system for added security.
Addressing the gathering, PM Amarasuriya praised Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara, who resumed duties after retirement to support the department’s crucial functions. She noted that the smooth conduct and release of the recent A/L results reflected the department’s professionalism and commitment.
She also said the facility would play a critical role in the upcoming education reforms, particularly in improving the reliability and modernization of assessment systems in Sri Lanka.
Several senior officials including Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwawa, National Institute of Education DG Prof. Manjula Vidanapathirana, and senior departmental officers attended the event. (Newswire)
