Shresta Iyer, sister of cricketer Shreyas Iyer, has responded after facing heavy online trolling following Punjab Kings’ elimination from IPL 2026.
The backlash began after an old light-hearted “banter” reel involving Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders resurfaced online when Punjab Kings narrowly missed out on the playoffs by one point.
In an Instagram video, she said the clip showing her celebrating after a rain-affected match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders was intended as harmless fun and not directed against anyone.
“The video that I had created earlier, you guys exaggerated it to extremes, when the motive of the reel was just a fun banter,” she said, adding that she meant no disrespect and holds “respect for every cricketer”.
Shresta also claimed the situation escalated beyond online criticism, alleging that people contacted her workplace and harassed her colleagues, students, and family.
“I pity you guys,” she said, referring to the harassment she says extended beyond social media. (Newswire)
