The low-floor priority bus service for persons with disabilities will be launched from Tuesday (21) from the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Centre, the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development said.
The project, implemented under the Clean Sri Lanka programme, has been allocated Rs. 430 million.
Under the first phase, 10 modern air-conditioned low-floor buses designed for easy access by wheelchair users will be deployed.
Each bus can carry up to 80 passengers and includes 33 seats along with safety features tailored for persons with disabilities.
The buses will operate between Makumbura and Pettah, and Makumbura to Kadawatha, at 40-minute intervals during morning and evening hours.
The service will also cover key healthcare institutions, including Maharagama Apeksha Hospital and the National Hospital, providing improved accessibility for patients and commuters. (Newswire)
