The Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs has requested the Director General of Government Information to intervene against a malicious social media campaign aimed at defaming Minister Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi.
In an official letter dated October 30, 2026, Media Secretary to the Minister Gunaratne Wickramatilake stated that false information claiming Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi “violated” the Buddhist Temporalities Ordinance that is being intentionally created and rapidly circulated across social media platforms.
The ministry identified an individual named “Nilantha Sathsara Gamage” as the creator and distributor of the fake content, submitting relevant Facebook account details and screenshots as evidence. Refuting all allegations as completely baseless, the ministry confirmed that legal action is underway against those responsible for creating and sharing the defamatory posts, while urging official publication of the accurate facts to halt further dissemination.
