Indian Railways has suspended a Chief Ticket Inspector after a First AC coach on the Nandedgram Express was decorated as a “honeymoon suite” for a newlywed couple, triggering widespread attention on social media.

Videos circulating online showed the train compartment adorned with balloons, floral arrangements, thousands of rose petals and an “I Love You” message before the couple boarded the train at Jalna station in Maharashtra.

According to Indian media reports, the decorations were arranged by a private event decoration company after the First AC cabin had been booked for the couple. The company said its staff entered the coach in advance to prepare the decorations while the couple travelled separately by road to the station.

Indian Railways said the decorators had entered the coach without authorisation, calling it a violation of railway regulations.

Following the incident, Chief Ticket Inspector Girish Kumar, who was on duty at the time, was suspended with immediate effect. Railway authorities have also launched a departmental inquiry to determine how the decorators gained access to the coach and whether any other officials were involved.

The incident sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising the romantic gesture while others questioned the safety, cleanliness and security implications of decorating a passenger train in service. Railways is expected to review the circumstances surrounding the unauthorised access as part of its investigation..(Newswire)
