Hemas Surgicals & Diagnostics (Private) Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with Singapore-based biotechnology firm Credence Genomics Holdings Pte Ltd to introduce advanced AI-powered genomic diagnostic solutions to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, strengthening access to next-generation infectious disease testing in the region. As part of the collaboration, Hemas will serve as the authorised distributor of Credence Genomics’ diagnostic portfolio, bringing molecular diagnostic technologies to hospitals, laboratories and healthcare providers. By integrating artificial intelligence with genomic sequencing, the solutions are designed to deliver faster, more accurate identification of infectious diseases.
The platform can differentiate disease-causing microorganisms from harmless microbes while also assessing antimicrobial resistance, providing clinicians with valuable information to support timely and effective treatment decisions, and runs on two proprietary systems: AIoS® (Artificial Intelligence on Sequencing) and MMR™ (Machine Modelled Resistance), which together support pathogen detection alongside antimicrobial resistance data. Its product line includes Bactfast® (22,000-plus bacteria), Fungifast® (6,000-plus fungi), Virfast® (9,000-plus DNA and RNA viruses), and dABST®, a predictive antimicrobial susceptibility test.
The solutions are expected to enhance the diagnosis of complex infections, mixed-pathogen cases, and infections that prove difficult to identify using conventional diagnostic methods. By consolidating comprehensive pathogen detection and resistance analysis into a single test, the platform aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce the time required to reach a definitive diagnosis. Credence Genomics’ portfolio includes specialised diagnostic assays for bacterial, viral and fungal pathogens, alongside an AI-driven antimicrobial susceptibility prediction platform that helps forecast resistance to antibiotic treatment. The products are expected to be introduced to the Sri Lankan market upon receiving the necessary regulatory approvals, after which they will be distributed through Hemas Surgicals & Diagnostics (Private) Limited to healthcare institutions across the country.
