Police have reportedly launched a criminal investigation into a false news report aired by Hiru News, as per reports, following a complaint by the Prime Minister’s Office.
According to the reports, the Inspector General of Police has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to look into the news item, which claimed that Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya had visited former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Prime Minister’s Office earlier dismissed the report as inaccurate, calling on media institutions to act responsibly. (Newswire)
