The Attorney General’s Department Legal Officers’ Association has expressed solidarity with the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), supporting the decision of Attorneys-at-Law to refrain from court work on Monday, 16 February 2026.
At an emergency Executive Committee meeting held today, the Association resolved to stand with the BASL’s Special General Meeting resolution.
The decision has been communicated to the Attorney General, who has indicated that officers attending court tomorrow will refrain from objecting to any postponements sought, in view of the BASL resolution.
BASL President Rajeev Amarasuriya said the collective action reflects the legal community’s firm stance in the wake of the recent killing of Attorney-at-Law Buddhika Mallawa Arachchi and his wife, and called for urgent measures to ensure the safety of lawyers and uphold public security. (Newswire)
