The Colombo High Court on Wednesday ordered the acquittal of Daisy Forrest, grandmother of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, in a case filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The order was issued after the Attorney General’s Department informed court that charges would be maintained only against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, News first reported.

During the previous hearings, counsel for Forrest told court that the 98-year-old was not in a suitable mental condition to stand trial.

The case relates to allegations that the accused were involved in laundering approximately 59 million rupees through three private bank accounts.

Accordingly, Forrest was released from the case, while proceedings will continue against Rajapaksa. (Newswire)
