The Catholic Church has emphasised that His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith never requested the appointments of Ravi Seneviratne and Shani Abeysekara to their current positions.
The clarification was made by Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando, spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Colombo, during a media briefing today (17), in response to a statement made in Parliament by Minister Bimal Rathnayake.
Fr. Cyril Gamini stated that neither the Cardinal nor the Catholic Church had ever called for the appointment of Shani Abeysekara and Ravi Seneviratne to their respective posts.
Commenting on former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s legal action, Fr. Cyril Gamini said that filing a petition seeking relief from arrest was within his legal rights and that the outcome would have to be awaited until a court ruling is delivered.
He also alleged that false propaganda and smear campaigns appeared aimed at obstructing ongoing investigations intended to uncover the truth behind the Easter Sunday attacks and bring those responsible before the law.
Fr. Cyril Gamini urged the public not to be misled by baseless and false claims circulating on social media. (Newswire)
