Sri Lanka has provided USD 1 million in humanitarian assistance to Nepal following the devastating Bhote Koshi River floods that caused significant loss of life and widespread damage across several districts.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal Ruwanthi Delpitiya handed over the financial contribution to Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu on Sept. 9, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said.
The assistance follows a commitment by the Sri Lankan government to support Nepal after the Aug. 26 floods, which affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and other districts.
The ministry said the USD 1 million contribution is intended to support Nepal’s ongoing humanitarian, relief and recovery operations and assist communities affected by floods and landslides.
During the meeting, Delpitiya conveyed Sri Lanka’s sympathy and solidarity with the people of Nepal and condolences to families who lost loved ones in the disaster.
The ministry said Sri Lanka would remain engaged with the Nepalese government and explore further avenues to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
The assistance comes as Nepal continues recovery efforts following the Bhote Koshi disaster, which caused extensive damage to communities and infrastructure. (Newswire)
