Dry weather expected in most parts of Sri Lanka today

Showers are expected in a few parts of Sri Lanka today (15), while mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island, according to the Department of Meteorology.

A few showers may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in the Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. 

Meanwhile, a few showers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Galle via Colombo.

Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 40-50 kmph and can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph and can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island may be fairly rough at times.

The wave height may increase about 2.0 – 2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. (Newswire)
