Former Mass Media Ministry Secretary and ex-Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), Anusha Palpita, has been further remanded until February 20 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Palpita was further remanded after the court reviewed submissions made by the Bribery Commission and Palpita’s legal counsel.

He was arrested on January 23 after appearing before the Commission to provide an initial statement. The arrest followed an investigation into assets reportedly valued at Rs. 46 million, which the Bribery Commission claims were not properly accounted for.

Authorities alleged that Palpita had accumulated wealth and property disproportionate to his known sources of income during a specified period. (Newswire)
