In a notable development, Sanath Jayasuriya has been named the interim head coach of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), taking the reins as the organization searches for a permanent successor to Chris Silverwood, The Sunday Times newspaper reported.

Since his appointment as SLC’s full-time “cricket consultant” last December, Jayasuriya has been actively involved in overseeing both players and coaches at the High Performance Centre in Khettarama. .

SLC has announced that the hunt for a permanent head coach will persist while Jayasuriya temporarily fills the role. Sri Lanka’s immediate focus will be the six-match limited overs series against India, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is, followed by a three-match Test series in England.

In preparation for a packed six months of cricket tours, Zubin Bharucha, the high-performance director for the Rajasthan Royals IPL franchise, will lead a batting master class for a group of national players. These sessions, scheduled from July 18 to 26 at the Khettarama High Performance Centre, were organized at the recommendation of former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara and at Jayasuriya’s request.
