Seven persons have been killed and three injured in seven road accidents in various parts of Sri Lanka on Wednesday, the Police said.
A 59-year-old resident of Trincimalee has died after being hit by a lorry on the pedestrian crossing in the Uppuveli area. The driver of the lorry has been taken into Police custody. The Trincomalee Police is conducting investigations.
A 20-year-old resident of Madapatha was reported dead in the Moragahahena area. The victim had lost control of his motorcycle and toppled over, eventually crashing into a wall. He had succumbed to injuries while being transferred to the Kalubowila Hospital for further treatment.
A 48-year-old resident of Kagama has died after the van he was travelling in had veered off the road and crashed into a wall in the Ipalogama area. The accident had occurred due to the driver of the van losing control of the vehicle.
A 58-year-old resident of Aludeniya was reported dead after a bus had collided with a three-wheeler and a motorcycle in the Katugasthota area. The driver of the three-wheeler had succumbed to injuries while being admitted to the Kandy Hospital. The 41-year-old bus driver has been arrested in connection with the accident.
A 24-year-old resident of Godakawela has died after crashing his motorcycle into the rear end of a boom truck in the Godakawela area. The accident had occurred due to the motorcyclist losing control of his vehicle.
A 16-year-old boy was reported dead, while two others, aged 16 and 17, were reported injured after the motorcycle they were travelling in had veered off the road and toppled into a paddy field in the Sri Pura area. The motorcyclist had succumbed to injuries while being transferred to the Padaviya Hospital.
A 64-year-old resident of Ankumbura has died after being hit by a motorcycle in Kandy yesterday. The pedestrian who had sustained serious injuries in the accident had died upon admission to the Kandy Hospital.
The Police Stations of the relevant areas of the incidents are conducting investigations into the accidents. (Newswire)
