The monthly Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship allowance for university students that has been increased to Rs. 10,000 under the 2026 budget proposals, with the revised payment to be credited to students’ bank accounts starting Tuesday (10).
The payment for January 2026 will be deposited starting Tuesday, according to the chairman of the Lalith Athulathmudali Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund, retired judge Wijith Malalgoda.
The allowance was increased from Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 10,000 under the 2026 budget proposals and took effect from January this year.
