NBRO issues landslide early warnings for 10 districts

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a landslide early warning for ten districts, effective from 8:30 p.m. today (20) until 8:30 p.m. tomorrow (21).

According to the Landslide Research and Risk Management Division, the warnings have been issued based on cumulative rainfall and weather forecasts from the Meteorology Department.

**Districts under warning:**

Landslide warnings have been issued for Badulla, Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura districts.

Several Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs) have been placed under varying levels of risk:

* **Level 3 (Red Alert – High Risk):** Areas in Kegalle including Rambukkana, Dehiowita, Kegalle, Aranayake, Yatiyanthota, and Mawanella.

* **Level 2 (Amber Alert – Moderate Risk):** Areas such as Udapalatha, Doluwa, Pathadumbara, Udunuwara, Deltota, and Pasbage Korale in Kandy District, as well as Warakapola, Ruwanwella, Bulathkohupitiya, and Galigamuwa in Kegalle.

* **Level 1 (Yellow Alert – Low Risk):** Divisions in Badulla, Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, Kurunegala, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura districts.

NBRO has advised residents, particularly in mountainous regions and areas with man-made cut slopes, to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Special attention has been drawn to all areas previously identified as landslide-prone by the NBRO.

The organisation said the warnings would remain in effect until 8:30 p.m. tomorrow unless extended or revised. (Newswire)
