Sri Lanka Police have issued orders to freeze two properties worth more than Rs. 130 million allegedly purchased with proceeds from illegal drug trafficking in the Embilipitiya area.
The properties, believed to be linked to two suspects, were identified following a complaint made by the Embilipitiya Senior Superintendent of Police to the Illegal Assets Investigation Division.
The investigation is being conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
One property, located in Kawantissapura, Embilipitiya, comprises about one acre and two roods of land with a two-storey house and is valued at approximately Rs. 70 million.
The second property, located in Bimbaduyaya, New Town, Embilipitiya, comprises 23.7 perches of land with a two-storey house and is valued at approximately Rs. 60 million.
The Illegal Assets Investigation Division has issued orders restricting transactions involving the properties for 14 days from Sept. 7, police said.
Further investigations into the assets are underway. (Newswire)
