Sri Lanka is set to intensify energy conservation efforts amid global supply concerns, with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake directing officials to implement immediate and coordinated measures with public support.

1. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed officials to implement comprehensive measures to strengthen energy conservation efforts across the country.

2. Public awareness campaigns will be intensified, particularly focusing on reducing electricity usage during peak hours between 6.00 p.m. and 10.00 p.m.

3. The President stressed that both institutions and individuals must contribute collectively to manage energy efficiently amid global supply challenges linked to the Middle East conflict.

4. The Government plans to further operationalise existing energy management measures, including introducing clear guidelines for the public sector.

5. Local government bodies will be engaged to ensure systematic energy management at the grassroots level.

6. Authorities are considering restricting electricity usage for advertising billboards and decorative lighting to reduce overall consumption.

7. Proposals are also being reviewed to limit non-essential street lighting in urban areas, with stakeholders urged to fast-track practical energy-saving solutions.
