CID probe launched into Makandure Madush killing

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the incident of underworld gang leader Makandure Madush being shot dead by two unidentified gunmen while in the custody of the Colombo Crimes Division.

Accordingly, the CID stated that statements are to be obtained in the future from the officers who took Madush to Maligawatta on the day he was killed.

On October 20, 2020, underworld gang leader Makandure Madush was shot dead in the Maligawatta area by two unidentified gunmen.

This was at the time when officers of the Colombo Crimes Division had taken Madush to the area to seize a stock of narcotics based on information he had provided.

Following the incident, a brother of Makandure Madush had made a request to the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security to conduct an investigation into the killing.

Subsequently, the Inspector General of Police referred the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department.

Later, after reporting the facts to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, the court ordered that a statement be obtained from the medical officer and that relevant footage of the killing be obtained from media institutions, Police said. (Newswire)
