The Sri Lanka Navy seized 264 kilograms of dried ginger and 69 kilograms of cardamom husks believed to have been smuggled into the country during a search operation in the Baththalangunduwa area of Kalpitiya on Aug. 23 (Sunday).
Navy personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya under the Northwestern Naval Command conducted the operation in the Sinnagunduwa coastal area of Baththalangunduwa.
The personnel inspected 13 suspicious sacks found in the area and recovered the dried ginger and cardamom husks.
The seized consignment was handed over to the Kalpitiya Police for further legal action. (Newswire)
