Sri Lanka Police have alerted the public to a fraudulent email campaign falsely claiming to be from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekara.
The CID has confirmed that the emails were neither issued nor authorized by the department.
According to the police, the deceptive messages were sent from noucinatacha20@gmail.com and police.cid.lk@gmail.com, with the apparent aim of misleading recipients, committing financial fraud, or unlawfully obtaining personal information.
The CID has launched investigations to identify those responsible and pursue legal action.
The Police urge the public to remain cautious and avoid sharing personal or confidential information in response to emails from the mentioned addresses. (Newswire)
