Four killed in three accidents on Tuesday

Three separate road accidents in different parts of Sri Lanka have claimed four lives on Tuesday (May 13), according to Police reports.

In Matara, a fatal collision occurred on the Matara-Tangalle coastal road near the Browns Hill area last night. A motorcycle attempting to overtake a bus had skidded and was run over by the bus, resulting in the deaths of both the rider and the pillion rider. The deceased were identified as a 30-year-old male from Matara and a 23-year-old female from Weerawila. The bus driver has been taken into custody as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, in the early hours of the morning in Kuchchaveli, a pedestrian was fatally hit by a cab near the 19th milepost on the Trincomalee-Pulmoddai road. The victim, a 52-year-old resident of Nilaveli, succumbed to injuries upon admission to the Nilaveli Hospital. The cab driver was arrested, and further inquiries are underway.

Later in the evening, a 52-year-old cyclist from Colombo 15 was killed in Modara after being hit by a lorry travelling from Sri Pannananda Junction towards Bodhiya Junction. The victim died while receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. The lorry driver has been arrested as Police continue investigations.

Police in all three jurisdictions, Matara, Kuchchaveli, and Modara, are conducting further investigations into the incidents. (Newswire)
