With a reported event budget of LKR 200 million, Naadagama Melbourne is being presented by its organisers as one of the largest Sri Lankan concert productions ever staged overseas. More than 5,000 tickets have already been sold for the October 31 concert, marking a significant milestone for a musical concept that began eight years ago with just 150 people.
The concert will take place at Melbourne’s iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl, a celebrated Australian outdoor venue that has hosted internationally renowned acts including ABBA, AC/DC, Paul McCartney and Metallica. Bringing Naadagama to this stage represents an important opportunity to showcase Sri Lankan music within an internationally recognised concert setting.
Hosted by Manuranga Wijesekara, the event will feature Methun SK, Ridma Weerawardena, Dinesh Gamage, Dhanith Sri, Kanchana Anuradhi and Supun Perera, under the musical direction of Eshan Denipitiya.
According to the organisers, musicians from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will also join the performance. Established in 1906, the MSO is Australia’s oldest professional orchestra and a prominent institution in the country’s cultural life. The participation of its musicians will add a significant international dimension to Naadagama’s musical arrangements.
More than 35 artists and technical professionals are travelling from Sri Lanka, joining overseas musicians and production personnel for an ambitious production combining musical performance, sound, lighting and stage presentation.
The scale of the Melbourne event reflects the growth of Naadagama itself. Over eight years, the show has developed around the same core artist lineup, building a recognisable identity and a loyal audience.
From its first gathering of 150 people, Naadagama has grown to attract audiences exceeding 12,000 at a single show. According to its organisers, cumulative attendance has surpassed 80,000 over the years, including 40,000 within the past two years alone.
That continuity has helped establish Naadagama as a valuable Sri Lankan entertainment property, with an audience connection that extends beyond any individual concert.
Its influence also lies in the experience it helped popularise: taking the intimacy and attentive listening associated with an indoor musical performance into an outdoor setting. Audiences gather to sing, listen and connect with the artists, making that shared atmosphere a central part of the show’s identity.
Its organisers see Naadagama as an influential part of the wider growth of similar outdoor musical experiences in Sri Lanka. The Melbourne production takes that concept further, bringing its established format to an international venue while introducing a new way for audiences to participate.
For the first time, Naadagama will be presented as a hybrid experience, connecting concertgoers in Melbourne with online viewers around the world and an audience gathering in Colombo.
Through the SLVLOG Events Couch Pass, fans in Sri Lanka and overseas will be able to watch the Melbourne concert live, extending access to those unable to attend in person.
A special Naadagama Watch Party will also take place at City of Dreams in Colombo, allowing fans to share the live screening together. Following the Melbourne broadcast, guests will enjoy a live performance of Handiya Pocket Edition, bringing two musical experiences to one venue.
With its LKR 200 million investment, international setting, travelling production team and collaboration between Sri Lankan and Australian musicians, Naadagama Melbourne represents a significant step in the development of a Sri Lankan concert brand for audiences across borders.
On October 31, that eight-year journey will connect audiences in Melbourne, Colombo and homes around the world through a shared celebration of Sri Lankan music. The MSO’s history is verified; its participation and the event figures above are based on the details you supplied.
