A consignment of Kush and hashish drugs, valued at approximately Rs. 50 million, has been seized by the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit.
Customs spokesperson and Additional Director General Sivalie Arukgoda said the drugs had been carefully concealed inside a speaker imported from Canada via an express courier service. The package had no listed recipient.
The speaker was initially detained by Customs on January 9 due to suspicions about its contents. However, after it remained unclaimed for months, it was opened for inspection on June 25.
During the search, officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau and Sri Lanka Police Narcotics Division found 17 small packets, 9 larger packets containing 862 grams of Kush, and 8 packets containing 4,014 grams of hashish hidden within the speaker.
The seized drugs have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further legal proceedings, and investigations are ongoing. (Newswire)
