
Sri Lanka Police have disclosed that the suspect arrested in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found inside a car in Teldeniya recently (17) is also wanted over multiple financial fraud cases across several courts.
The 43‑year‑old suspect and his 35‑year‑old wife, residents of Pallekele, were arrested in Jaffna early yesterday (24) by officers of the Walana Central Anti‑Corruption Strike Unit.
They were taken into custody following investigations into the death of a 33‑year‑old woman from Weligama, whose body was discovered inside a vehicle near the Teldeniya Hospital on June 17.
The case has since been handed over to the Nuwara Eliya Police for further investigation.
Police said inquiries revealed the suspect had previously defrauded large sums of money by promising marriage, vehicle imports, and foreign travel. Among the cases pending against him are:
- Rs. 11.87 million fraud and illegal use of a motor car – case before Gampaha Magistrate’s Court.
- Rs. 1.72 million fraud – case before Aluthkade No. 05 Magistrate’s Court.
- Rs. 1.37 million fraud – case before Aluthkade No. 05 Magistrate’s Court.
- Rs. 2.2 million fraud linked to vehicle imports – case before Tissamaharama Magistrate’s Court.
- Four separate cases filed by the CID pending before Aluthkade, Horana, and Kaduwela Magistrates’ Courts.
- Rs. 4.2 million fraud linked to promises of foreign travel – case before Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court.
The suspects arrested in connection with the Teldeniya death are to be handed over to the Nuwara Eliya Police Station for further investigations. (Newswire)
