A 16-year-old boy went missing after being swept away by the sea while swimming at Mount Lavinia beach on the evening of Feb. 16, police said.
The teenager, a resident of Gangodawila, had gone swimming with friends after informing his parents. Investigations revealed that he was carried away by strong waves.
Mount Lavinia Police, along with lifeguards, have launched search operations. Further investigations are ongoing.
