
Six people, including an 11-year-old schoolboy and an 82-year-old woman, were killed in separate road accidents reported across Sri Lanka on June 7, according to Police.
In Nikaweratiya, an 82-year-old woman died after being struck by a lorry while crossing the road near the Nikaweratiya Hospital. The lorry driver was arrested.
In Pansiyagama, an 11-year-old schoolboy was killed after being hit by a lorry while attempting to cross the road after getting off a school van in the Halmillawa area. The driver was taken into custody.
In Hikkaduwa, a car veered off the road, struck a pedestrian, and crashed into a concrete pole. The 55-year-old driver later succumbed to his injuries in hospital, while the pedestrian was injured.
In Mahawa, a 19-year-old motorcyclist died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a culvert in the Ehalagas Pallama area. The pillion rider sustained injuries.
In Giribawa, an 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed after his motorcycle collided with an oncoming car in Dambadeniya. The pillion rider was admitted to hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, in Eheliyagoda, a 42-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by a bus while crossing the Avissawella–Ratnapura main road. The bus driver was arrested.
Police are conducting further investigations into all the accidents. (Newswire)
