The book Ran Dhoni, which tells the story of the daughter of Dr. Shiabdeen Mohamed Shafi, a doctor who was falsely accused in 2019 of forcibly sterilizing women, was launched on Tuesday (30) at the Colombo International Book Fair.
Written by veteran journalist Suranga Senanayake, the book recounts the challenges faced by Dr. Shafi’s family during and after the ordeal.
Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa was the chief guest at the event, which was held at the open-air theatre of the Book Fair.
Several prominent figures attended, including JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva, Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake, Chairman of Capital Group Shashi Raj Mahendran, Group Director Shevan Daniel, MD Gunasena Managing Director Rajiv Gunasena, Publication Manager Jayampathy Rajakaruna, and retired Senior Superintendent of Police Shani Abeysekara.
Dr. Shafi, together with his wife and daughter, also participated in the launch, which drew a notable audience. (Newswire)
