Sri Lanka is set to roll out Starlink satellite internet services, with all required government approvals and regulatory processes now completed, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne confirmed.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting held in Singapore on the sidelines of the Asia Tech x Summit 2025. The meeting, organized by the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore, brought together Deputy Minister Weeraratne and U.S. Ambassador Stephan Lang, Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy at the U.S. Department of State.

Deputy Minister Weeraratne noted that the government is awaiting final dashboard data from Starlink to proceed with the operational launch. Once received, services can begin without delay, he said.

The meeting also covered broader digital cooperation, including support from U.S. tech giants like Google and Meta, establishment of local data centers, and the integration of AI and cybersecurity infrastructure.

Ambassador Lang reaffirmed the United States’ full support for Sri Lanka’s digital transformation and highlighted the urgency and importance of implementing these strategic initiatives. (Newswire)
