Electricity Distribution Lanka (Private) Limited (EDL) has assumed responsibility for electricity distribution functions previously carried out by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), under the power sector reforms introduced through the Electricity Act No. 36 of 2024.
In a public notice issued to customers and stakeholders, EDL said the transition forms part of broader reforms aimed at restructuring the country’s electricity sector.
According to the notice, EDL has been empowered to implement operational reforms and improvements within the electricity distribution sector in order to enhance efficiency, reliability, and the quality of electricity distribution services.
Meanwhile, the official social media pages previously operated under the Ceylon Electricity Board name have also been renamed to reflect the new entity, Electricity Distribution Lanka. (Newswire)
