United States President Donald Trump said the US does not need support from its allies after several NATO countries indicated they would not take part in a military operation targeting Iran.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Trump said most NATO allies had informed Washington they did not want to get involved in the operation, despite agreeing with the broader objective of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
“We are the greatest country and we don’t need the help of anyone,” Trump said, adding that the US had already achieved significant military success.
Trump also criticised NATO, describing the alliance as a “one-way street” and suggesting that the US spends heavily on defence while allies do little in return during times of need.
He further claimed that Iran’s military capabilities had been largely destroyed, including its navy, air force, and defence systems, although these claims could not be independently verified. (Newswire)
