The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai have issued an advisory urging Indian nationals travelling to or residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to ensure they have adequate medical insurance coverage.
In an advisory issued on Tuesday (27), the Indian diplomatic missions said they had received several reports of Indian nationals facing unexpected illnesses or medical emergencies that resulted in substantial medical bills beyond the financial capacity of patients and their families.
The missions noted that inadequate insurance coverage had contributed to the financial difficulties faced by those affected.
Accordingly, Indian nationals travelling to the UAE for tourism or other short-term visits have been advised to obtain appropriate medical insurance before commencing their journeys.
The insurance should also cover cashless medical treatment facilities and the cost of medical repatriation to India in the event of an emergency.
Meanwhile, Indian nationals residing in the UAE on employment visas or as dependents have been advised to verify that their existing insurance policies provide sufficient coverage for medical expenses in the UAE, as well as medical repatriation to India.
The advisory emphasised the importance of securing comprehensive medical insurance to avoid significant financial burdens arising from unforeseen medical emergencies. (Newswire)
