The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has issued a formal clarification regarding the implementation of new educational reforms for Grade 6 students.
The clarification follows the national program held today (Jan. 29) to enroll children into Grade 1 with new reforms. During the event, Prime Minister and Minister of Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that no injustice would be caused to children entering Grade 6 this year and that new educational reforms would be implemented for them in the future.
However, the Ministry noted that a false report has been circulating, misinterpreting the Prime Minister’s speech to claim that Grade 6 reforms would be implemented within the current year. The Ministry stated that this misinterpretation has created a misconception among children, parents, and society.
Nalaka Kaluwewa, Secretary of the Ministry, emphasized that the government is currently considering a proper program to systematically include children entering Grade 6 in 2026 into the reform process in the future.
The Ministry requested a correction of the false reports to reflect that the reforms are intended for a later date to ensure no injustice is caused to the students. (NewsWire)
