Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage says Sri Lanka and Cuba have agreed to strengthen cooperation in sports development following bilateral talks with Cuban Sports Minister Osvaldo Vento in Havana.
The Minister said discussions focused on introducing several specialised sports training programmes in Sri Lanka with technical assistance from Cuba, with the Cuban government agreeing to extend its full support.
Cuba has won 244 Olympic medals, including 89 gold medals, and is internationally recognised for its strength in sports including boxing and wrestling.
Presidents of Cuba’s national boxing and wrestling federations and Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Cuba, Mahinda Ratnayake, also attended the discussions. (Newswire)
