The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has requested clarification from Parliament on whether MPs’ salaries are credited to specific account or to the individual bank accounts of each parliamentarian, the Sunday Times reported.

The request follows a complaint filed by former MP Udaya Gammanpila, who alleged that monthly payments made from public funds to members of the National People’s Power were being used for political activities, amounting to corruption.

Gammanpila lodged the complaint on September 21 last year. He said that under existing legal provisions, he would seek an update from CIABOC on the progress of the investigation. (Newswire)
