Police arrest wanted man over Rs. 1.5m telephone cable theft

A wanted suspect linked to multiple criminal cases was arrested in Seeduwa on Monday by officers of the Negombo Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau, police said.

The arrest was made during a raid carried out in the Seeduwa junction area following a tip-off received by the crime investigation unit. Police said the suspect had allegedly cut telephone cables belonging to a private institution and stolen copper wiring valued at approximately Rs. 1.5 million.

At the time of arrest, officers recovered 2,130 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice,” from the suspect, police said.

The suspect, a 25-year-old resident of Batuwatta, was handed over to the Seeduwa Police Station for further investigations.

Police said five outstanding warrants had been issued against the suspect in connection with previous criminal cases. Investigators also recovered 12 stolen power cables and 2 kilograms and 400 grams of melted copper wire believed to have been obtained through theft.

Seeduwa police are continuing further investigations into the case. (Newswire)
