Tamil Nadu Election: Final Results

Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay has delivered a stunning electoral breakthrough, as final results of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026 show his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerging as the single largest party.

According to official results from the Election Commission of India, all 234 seats have been declared, with the majority mark set at 118.

Vijay’s TVK won 108 seats in its maiden electoral contest, falling just short of an outright majority but firmly establishing itself as the dominant political force in the state.

The DMK-led alliance secured 73 seats, while the AIADMK-led alliance won 53 seats. Other parties, including NTK, failed to secure any seats.

Despite not crossing the majority threshold on its own, TVK’s performance marks one of the most dramatic political debuts in Tamil Nadu’s history, significantly disrupting the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.

Vijay’s rise has been largely driven by strong support among youth and urban voters, along with a campaign centred on change and anti-establishment messaging.

With 108 seats, TVK is now in a strong position to form the next government, depending on post-election alliances or support from smaller groups.

Addressing supporters after the results, Vijay signalled confidence in forming an administration, calling the mandate a “people’s victory” and “the beginning of a new political era” in Tamil Nadu. (Newswire)
