Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Kavinda Jayawardena is set to address an international roundtable in Brussels, Belgium, focusing on strengthening the resilience of political parties against foreign interference and other forms of malign influence.
The Gampaha District MP will participate as an invited speaker at the roundtable titled “Political Parties Under Pressure – How to Strengthen the Resilience of Parties Against Malign Influence from Third Actors,” scheduled to be held on Tuesday (29).
The event is organised by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) together with the European Network of Political Foundations (ENoP).
It will bring together representatives of European political foundations, experts from European Union institutions and think tanks, as well as participants from partner regions around the world.
MP Jayawardena is scheduled to deliver an input statement during the opening panel, which will examine challenges faced by political parties both within and outside Europe from malign influence.
The discussion will cover issues including foreign information manipulation and interference, covert financing, cyber operations and disinformation campaigns.
During his address, MP Jayawardena is expected to present a Sri Lankan perspective on these threats and discuss measures aimed at strengthening democratic institutions.
The roundtable will be conducted under the Chatham House Rule. (Newswire)
