Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara has rejected claims circulating on social media that the Parliamentary Select Committee report on the controversial release of 323 containers from the Colombo Port has gone missing.
The Minister, who chairs the committee, described the allegations as completely false and said the report was in its final stages of preparation.
He said the committee had completed recording evidence from witnesses and that all documents and evidence remained safely recorded in Parliament.
Nanayakkara said the committee had examined a substantial volume of documents and that preparing its findings had taken longer than initially expected.
He said the report had already been written and was now being finalised, with the typing and preparation of the final document expected to be completed by the end of next week.
The Minister also confirmed that Parliament had approved an extension of the committee’s mandate until December 21, 2026, allowing additional time to submit its findings and recommendations.
He questioned why misleading claims about the report were being circulated and suggested that certain opposition figures may be responsible for spreading misinformation.
The committee was appointed to investigate the release of 323 containers from the Colombo Port without mandatory physical Customs inspections, an incident that raised concerns over Customs procedures and accountability.
Nanayakkara reiterated that no documents or reports had gone missing and assured the public that the committee’s findings would be submitted within the extended deadline. (Newswire)
