Sri Lanka Police have thanked Dubai Police and authorities in the United Arab Emirates for their assistance in arresting and facilitating the return of a Sri Lankan suspect Bus Lalith wanted in connection with a series of serious crimes.
Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler said the 36-year-old suspect, a resident of Kalutara South, was brought back to Sri Lanka after efforts initiated following information received by the Inspector General of Police in October 2025.
He said the suspect is wanted in connection with several investigations involving shootings and murders, attempted murders, causing grievous injuries, extortion, attacks using sharp weapons, and the burning of vehicles and other property.
Wootler said the suspect is also believed to have been heavily involved in drug trafficking.
The suspect is currently being held under detention orders by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau for further investigations.
Police said 42 suspects wanted under Interpol Red Notices have been brought back to Sri Lanka during 2024, 2025 and 2026, while efforts are underway to bring back another 109 suspects against whom Red Notices have been issued.
Police have also brought back 38 wanted suspects from overseas who were not subject to Red Notices, Wootler said.
Wootler expressed appreciation to Dubai Police and UAE authorities for their support in locating and arresting the suspect and assisting Sri Lankan authorities in bringing him back to the country. (Newswire)
