Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya says the Central Cultural Fund (CCF) is now functioning in line with its intended objectives, adding that significantly more work could have been accomplished if its funds had not been misused in the past.
The Prime Minister made the remarks on Friday (19) while attending the commencement of restoration work at the historic Gallangolla Pothgul Mul Maha Viharaya in Welamboda, Udunuwara, which was damaged by Cyclone Ditwah.
Amarasuriya stressed that the country’s progress cannot be measured solely through economic development and highlighted the importance of preserving heritage, culture and education.
The restoration project is being implemented jointly by the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Central Cultural Fund. (Newswire)
