The owner of a private tuition centre, accused in connection with the recent suicide of a 16-year-old student, lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today (May 9).

He requested an inquiry into what he claims is a deliberate smear campaign tarnishing his name. The tutor said the deceased student had attended classes while unwell, and in February, he merely advised her parents to ensure she returned only after recovering.

The complainant stated that social media posts using his photos and making defamatory remarks have caused him significant distress. He suspects the campaign is being orchestrated intentionally.

He also revealed that as an organiser for Colombo North of the National People’s Power (NPP), certain politicians may be targeting him to discredit the government.

Denying reports that he had publicly humiliated the student, he stressed that he never spoke to her in the classroom as alleged.

The 16-year-old girl had died by suicide in Kotahena recently, after which her parents alleged that her death was linked to her being sexually abused by a male teacher at the school and also being humiliated at a private tuition institute in front of fellow students over the incident. (Newswire)
