Bus and train services ramped up after the New Year holidays

Bus and train services across the island are being increased from Thursday (16) as transport operations return to normal following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays.

The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association said private bus operations will run at 50% to 60% capacity from Thursday (16), with services expected to return to normal by Friday (17).

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Railways said it has increased the number of train services, with around 120 train journeys scheduled for the day.

The office train services will operate as usual during peak hours, while special trains are planned for Saturday (18) and Sunday (19) to accommodate increased passenger demand.

Special train services to and from Matara are also being operated, including departures in the morning and afternoon, with additional services scheduled on Sunday (19). (Newswire)
