According to reports published by The Morning newspaper, questions have emerged over who actually selected Sri Lanka’s squads for the upcoming West Indies tour, after conflicting claims by the newly-appointed and former national selection committees.

New selection committee chairman Kapila Wijegunawardene has reportedly stated that the squads touring the Caribbean were selected entirely by the previous committee led by Pramodya Wickramasinghe.

Speaking to The Morning Sports, Wijegunawardene said the new panel had “no input” in selecting the squads, noting that his committee officially began duties only on May 22.

“The Men’s squads for the tour of the Caribbean had been picked by the previous committee,” he was quoted as saying.

However, Wickramasinghe has disputed that claim, alleging that the new selection panel made changes to the squads originally chosen by his committee.

According to Wickramasinghe, his panel had initially selected separate squads for the Test, ODI and T20I series, but claimed the new selectors later expanded the squads and made several alterations.

He further alleged that the previous committee had identified a different vice-captain for the ODI squad, but that decision had later been changed. (Newswire)
