Any Police officer wearing the official uniform is authorised to take legal action against traffic offenders under the Motor Traffic Act, Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler has clarified.

Addressing the media, the Police Spokesman said that the authority to take action over traffic violations is not limited to officers attached to the Traffic Police.

He explained that any Police officer in official uniform can initiate legal action over traffic offences, even when carrying out duties alone.

ASP Wootler made the clarification in response to questions circulating on social media regarding the authority of Police officers to enforce traffic laws.

Meanwhile, responding to concerns about Police officers hiding to catch traffic offenders, the Spokesman said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has informed all Police officers that it is not necessary to conceal themselves when detecting traffic violations. (Newswire)
