Police confirmed that organised crime suspect Manoj Suranga, alias ‘Batuwatte Chamara’, who was arrested in Azerbaijan, was brought back to Sri Lanka last night.
He was escorted to the island via India by a Sri Lankan police team that left the country on May 7 for the operation.
According to the State Intelligence Service (SIS) of Sri Lanka, the arrest was carried out as a joint operation between the SIS and the State Security Service of Azerbaijan. The suspect, identified as Liyanage Manoj Suranga, was taken into custody in Azerbaijan in connection with organised crime and drug trafficking.
Following the operation, arrangements were made through the Sri Lanka Police to bring him back to Sri Lanka on the night of May 10, 2026. (Newswire)
