Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake has issued an apology on behalf of the Ministry after the Jaffna Intercity train had changed its departing station leaving passengers stranded without prior notice.

The train which was originally scheduled to start from Mount Lavinia, had been rescheduled to start from Colombo Fort and did not stop at Wellawatte either, catching many off guard at 5AM.

Passengers had reportedly paid LKR 3,600 for tickets.

Minister Ratnayake, responding on X, said that the train had not operated from Mount Lavinia for two consecutive days despite promises.

He had instructed officials to ensure better planning and to inform the public only when operations are fully ready.
