Yala, Sri Lanka – Hilton Yala recently contributed to an important national conversation on the future of tourism in Sri Lanka, with Chathura Priyadarshana, Senior Ranger Specialist at Hilton Yala, participating as a panelist at the sixth session of Thema Talks Season 2, held in collaboration with SLTC – Sri Lanka Technology Campus.
The session, titled “De-Seasonalising Sri Lanka: Spreading Demand without Spreading Damage,” explored practical strategies to distribute visitor demand more evenly throughout the year while ensuring tourism growth remains environmentally sustainable, economically inclusive, and socially responsible.
Representing Hilton Yala’s perspective as a leading wildlife tourism destination, Chathura Priyadarshana shared insights into sustainable safari operations, responsible visitor management, wildlife conservation, and destination stewardship. Drawing on firsthand experience in one of Sri Lanka’s most sensitive ecological regions, he highlighted the importance of balancing visitor experiences with environmental protection.
The discussion brought together industry professionals, academics, tourism practitioners, and stakeholders to examine how Sri Lanka can create year-round tourism opportunities while reducing pressure on destinations during peak seasons.
